History

In the spring of 2012, Frank Toste received a phone call from Alan McAnelly, the President of American Dorper Sheep Breeders Society, asking him to help start a club in the west. Frank contacted Judi Mault and asked her to help him start the club. They met Alan in Reno and had the first club meeting on May 29, 2012 at the Nugget All American Sheep Show. Alan appointed Frank as President and Judi as Vice President. Two others members from Utah and California were appointed to this new board, The board started working on the bylaws and non profit status. These were completed June 2013 by a new board. The new board also developed the Articles of Association.

The next meeting was held in Orland California in 2013, Initially, the name was Western States Dorper and White Dorper Association. The name was changed in 2013 to Western States Dorper Association. In 2018, the state of record was moved from Montana to Arizona, where the treasurer resided. Currently the state of record is in Arizona.

Western States Dorper Association is for both the commercial and registered stock breeders as well as Dorper and White Dorper breeders. Western States Dorper Association provides a valuable networking tool for both producers and consumers within the Western United States. The Western States Dorper Association is a regional affiliate with the American Dorper Sheep Breeders’ Society.

The Western States Dorper Association covers all of Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, California, Oregon, Idaho and Washington.
