WSDA Show & Sale Results

The WSDA Show and Sale on May 18-19, 2019 in Modesto, California had 104 breed-quality sheep sell. Raymond Read, Certified Inspector and Judge from South Africa judged the Breeding classes; and Wesley Patton, Certified Dorper Judge from Orland, CA judged the Youth Showmanship and Market classes. Both judges were highly regarded in-person and in post-survey results. Raymond Read also provided a well-attended and interactive seminar on the Dorper Breed standard, and was pleased to see the level of quality in the animals presented.

WSDA partnered with Willoughby sales, which brought improved online bidding and online streaming of the sale, as well as increased exposure. Youth activities were expanded, and included a full Youth Breeding Show, a Dorper Market Lamb Jackpot and a Showmanship Show. It was very exciting to see the enthusiasm in this growing segment of our Association! The Ewe Lamb Raffle, with ewes generously donated by Hijo Dorpers and Central California Dorpers, was a huge success, raising over $2,560 for our youth programs. Rhys Ludlow and Justus Emsoff were each awarded Vouchers for their winning essays in our Youth Breeder Voucher contest. There were also wonderful items donated to the raffle as well. Participants enjoyed a delicious Mexican dinner at the Social following the show on Saturday, the 18th, and consignors and bidders alike enjoyed a lunch of Dorper tacos on sale day, Sunday, the 19th. Judge, Raymond Read, provided comments on each sheep as it entered the sale ring. Overall, it was a great event that continues to get better every year!

Western States Dorper Sale – a Hot Pacesetter!

The Western Dorper Association-sponsored sale was its best ever, as 76 lots of Dorpers and White Dorpers averaged a sizzling $1,430.26. The sale was held at the beautiful Livestock Center at Modesto, California Junior College. The unique style of judging done by Ashley Phillips, South Africa, was a hit at the sale. Before the top four or five placings in each class were made, those animals were all turned loose to watch them walk and move about the ring.
